Makhachkala is the city of millennial history and the centre of the republic. The magnificent view of Makhachkala is formed by green parks and flower beds, wide avenues and mosques’ minarets against marvelous background of mountain and sea landscape. Caspian Sea and picturesque embankment in Makhachkala is a real magnet for all inhabitants and guests. The transport infrastructure in the region is very well developed – airport, railways, highways connect Dagestan with Moscow and other big cities in Russia as well as with the cities in many foreign countries. Makhachkala gives a very special unforgettable impression of different epochs, nations and civilizations coexisting peacefully.
Dagestan State Technical University is one of the biggest and prestigious higher technical education establishments in Russia. Two times in 2004 and 2005 the University won the prize in the contest “100 best Russian higher educational establishments” and obtained gold medal “European Quality”. Today more than 12000 students from different parts of Russia and foreign countries study at 15 faculties of the University. The Faculty of Dagestan State Technical University numbers about 700 teachers and professors of highest qualification. Students start first academic and research work under their competent direction. All students of the University have access to scientific and technical library with a fund of about 1 million volumes. The decree was issued by the President of the Russian Federation on the construction of Technology Park on the basis of the University; the construction of this technology park aims to launch innovative activities and to realize the most up-to-date scientific technologies. Today the Centre of modern information technologies, one of the biggest on the territory of Russia, is already functioning. The education and research centre “Modern electronic elements and technologies” was created by the University conjointly with one of the world reading companies in the sphere of production of electronic elements and technologies of signal processing - ANALOG DEVICES INC (USA). In the Center specialists are being trained in the spheres of electronics, microprocessor technology and digital signal processing. Scientific units of Dagestan State Technical University include a number of scientific and research institutes, innovation and investment center, republic center for integrated automation, marketing center, scientific and research laboratory of regional economic solutions, center of seismology, “Internet Center”, scientific and creative center. Students participate actively in the work of all above centers and gain essential scientific and practical skills and experience in research activity.
Perfectly equipped classrooms for lectures and practical studies, convenient location of university campuses, scientific and technical library with access to all university resources and comfortable reference room equipped with computers – all these facilities form developed infrastructure of university campuses which makes study and stay here comfortable. This is essential especially for foreign students. All foreign citizens who study in Dagestan State Technical University are accommodated in 4 modern comfortable student hostels. In the student’s campuses everything is arranged in such a way that it is pleasant to stay and to study – cafe with diverse national cuisines, sport centers and gyms, out-of-town sports and health complexes on the Caspian seashore, cultural and leisure center etc.
The University has made a commitment to maintain perpetual ongoing participation in educational programs and research activities conjointly with the largest universities in France, Great Britain, Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey, Malaysia, India and many others.
Upon successful completion of any Russian state university, the graduate gets higher education degree of Russian national standard indicating speciality and qualification. The graduate also gets EUROPEAN APPENDIX to the degree, which allows to apply for a prestigious job or continue education in 45 European countries signed up to the Bologna convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education. Dagestan State Technical University alumni have gone on to hold positions of great responsibility and influence in more than 30 foreign countries. The charge for nostrification of foreign educational documents to obtain “Certificate of equivalence” in the Rosobrnadzor of Russian Federation obligatory for all international students is approximately 150 USD. Students prepare the set of educational documents and undergo the procedure of equivalency by themselves and at their own expence.

The above-mentioned fees for tuition, accommodation in student hostel, life and health insurance are valid only for 2010/2011academic year.

Fees for tuition and accommodation in student hostels in Russian State Universities are fixed in Russian national currency – “Russian ruble”. Fees indicated in USD are approximate equivalent of tuition fees in Russian rubles by the time of processing this booklet. The actual cost for tuition and accommodation in Russian State Universities fees may be corrected slightly the date of invoice for tuition payment issuing in accordance with exchange rate USD – Russian ruble in the International Exchange Market.

During the initial registration procedure the candidate pays a registration fee of 300 USD which covers the charges for the issuance of the invitation letter for studies, sending its original and other documents to the candidate's country of the permanent residence by express mail, meeting the candidate at the international airport in Moscow, transfer to the domestic airport/train station in Moscow, meeting at the airport/train station of Makhachkala and accompanying to the University, drawing up documents for admission to University for studies, registration fee, etc. The above mentioned amount doesn't include the cost of the train ticket/airfare Moscow-Makhachkala (the approximate cost of the train ticket Moscow - Makhachkala is about 175 USD, travel time - 40 hours, the approximate airfare is about 250 USD, travel time – 2h20). Average food expenses are 200-300 USD per month. When first entering Russia, the candidate should have about 500 USD to buy some basic necessities and personal things (clothes, dishes, electrical equipment, etc.).
