Moscow State University is considered to be the oldest University in Russia. It was founded in 1755 by virtue of the activity of the outstanding scientist-encyclopedist, first Russian academician M.V. Lomonosov (1711-1765). Hence, in 1940, on its 185th anniversary, the University was named after M.V. Lomonosov.
Moscow State University is the largest classical University in the world. It comprises of 29 faculties, 15 scientific research institutes, 4 museums, and over 350 chairs. The University trains students in 27 courses and 57 specialities, PG and PhD students in 168 scientific specilaities enclosing almost all available courses in the modern higher education. More than 40 thousand students including PG students, PhD students and advanced trained specialists study currently at Moscow State University. The University is recognized as the leader in advanced training. About 5 thousand professors and staff of enterprises and Universities annually take refresher courses here.

The following international courses are available in Moscow State University: UN International Demographic Courses, UNESCO Hydrologic Courses, Biotechnology International Center, International Scientific Laser Center, a system of Russian language courses and seminars for foreign teachers. French University College, Russian-American University, German Science and Culture Institute were created in 1991. Over 60 scientists, foreign state and political personalities are honored doctors and professors of Moscow State University. Many eminent University scientists are honored members of foreign academies and universities.
Moscow State University has always paid big attention to the advanced training of specialists. Upon the arrival at the University, the student pays a registration fee in the amount of 60 EURO in cash at the Account Department of the University.
The charge for nostrification of foreign educational documents to obtain “Certificate of equivalence” in the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation obligatory for all international students is 150 EURO.
The above-mentioned fees for tuition, accommodation in student hostel, life and health insurance are valid only for 2009/2010 academic year.
Fees for tuition and accommodation in student hostels in Russian State Universities are fixed in Russian national currency – “Russian ruble”. Fees indicated in EURO are approximate equivalent of tuition fees in Russian rubles by the time of processing this booklet. The actual cost for tuition and accommodation in Russian State Universities fees may be corrected slightly the date of invoice for tuition payment issuing in accordance with exchange rate EURO – Russian ruble in the International Exchange Market.
During the initial registration procedure the candidate pays a registration fee of 200 EURO which covers the charges for the issuance of the invitation letter for studies, sending the original and other documents to the candidate's country of the permanent residence by express mail, meeting the candidate at the international airport in Moscow, transfer and accompanying to the University, drawing up documents for admission to the University for studies, registration fee, etc.
Average food expenses are 250-300 EURO per month. When first entering Russia, the candidate should have about 400 EURO to buy some basic necessities and personal things (clothes, dishes, electrical equipment, etc.).
