 Many things have been said about the influence of music on people.  Music helps to create as well as to destroy.  The unique goal of the Musician is to interpret the train of thoughts that will describe the situations and processes of the external world, interior emotional experience of the person with auditory impressions. “The music is a powerful fountain of thoughts; the full mental growth is impossible without musical education; the music is the most miraculous, the most delicate mean of attraction to the good, the beauty and the humanism”, said Suhomlinskiy.
 Nizhny Novgorod State M. I. Glinka Conservatory was founded in 1946.
It is one of the most authoritative centers of Russian art culture with fully formed musical traditions and teaching schools. The present Conservatory is the powerful consolidated factor of musical thought, of high professional performance, disinterested enlightenment, center of masters and students. The link of time and honest hands keep and pass the baton of the greatest civilization achievement – the Art!  I.M. Glinka Conservatory is located in an ancient and beautiful Russian city with rich history and the population of over 1 million people – Nizhny Novgorod; the city is situated in the European part of Russia upon the conflux of the Volga and the Oka rivers. It's often referred to as the third capital of Russia. There are more than 600 unique historic, architectural and cultural monuments in the city and it's on the list of 100 cities worldwide that are most valuable in terms of history and culture. Developed infrastructure and great opportunities for study, all these make the city especially attractive for students including those who come from other countries.
 At present Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory is a dynamically developing musical educational establishment, a big educational, scientific and cultural center of the Volga region whose special pride is highly professional teaching staff that carefully keeps and multiplies the best traditions of the worldwide recognized Russian academic musical school. There are over 200 professors and teachers in the magistral staff: 5 Doctors of Science, 40 Candidates of Science, 59 professors, 78 associated professors. 47 members of the teaching staff have been awarded the honorary degrees in the field of culture and art of Russia. Numerous awards of students and graduate students of the Conservatory at Russian national and international competitions demonstrate its high level quality of education. Specialists graduated from Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory work in different big cities of Russia as well as in the USA and Great Britain, Japan and Australia, Germany and Israel, Holland and Switzerland, China and Korea.
 Over 700 students study currently at the Conservatory.
Besides traditional specialities including Instrumental Performance, Conducting, Vocal Art, Musicology and Composition, new specialities were launched at Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory these last years such as Musical Sound Production, Dramatic Art (qualification “Actor of the Musical Theatre”); Computer Technologies and up-to-date achievements of modern electronic equipment are introduced in the educational process. 
 Students of Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory besides classes with teachers have got all opportunities for self-studies. The educational establishment is equipped with necessary classes with good musical instruments. Aside of educational units the Conservatory incorporates museum, sound record laboratory, folklore room as well as informatics, philosophy classrooms, musical instruments repair and adjustment shop, information and edition department, teaching practice division. There is a library, two reading rooms, and comfortable student hostel at the Conservatory. Rooms of the hostel are equipped with all necessary furniture and bedding. There are kitchens on every floor where students cook the food that they like. All conditions for education of foreign citizens are created in the Conservatory. Today undergraduate and post graduate students and trainees from China, Korea, Spain, Serbia, Syria, Jamaica, Japan, Austria and other countries study here.
 The concert activities at the Conservatory are extremely intensive: 170 concerts took place in the Big and Small Сoncert Halls of the Conservatory in 2008! The stage of the Conservatory Big Hall is decorated with the unique organ in the region: organ music evenings are very popular among wide audiences. Teachers, bright undergraduate and post graduate students of the Conservatory go often on tour and strengthen the performance, vocal and conducting prestige of Nizhny Novgorod  Conservatory .
 Foreign scientists and musicians from Germany, Austria, France, the USA and other countries traditionally take part in big scientific and concert projects organized by the Conservatory. Large-scale scientific and art project dedicated to the art of the XX century has got a big resonance; 5 international conferences together with exhibitions and cycles of concerts have already taken place. One of the latest projects of the international level is the Johann Sebastian Bach Festival that took place in October 2008; its culmination was “The St John Passion” in hand of the Conservatory chorus and Bach Kettwig ensemble (Essen, Germany).
 The intense educational international activity of Russia together with the acknowledgement of Conservatory's graduates' achievements helped the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory to enter the international level. 
 The Conservatory organized 10 conferences “Actual Problems of Higher Musical Education” during last 10 years; they were awarded the status of international in 2006. The International school of vocal mastership with participation of eminent representatives of world opera stage from Paris high school, theatres “Grand Opéra” (Paris) and “Metropolitan Opera” (USA) was held twice on the basis of the Conservatory.
 The Conservatory is the base establishment where Russian National Open Competition of Winders and Russian National L. K. Sivuhin Choral Festival take place. Thesis Council works at the Conservatory. Since its foundation in 2003, 36 thesis works for the Degree of Candidate of Art History were successfully defended.
Contacts with foreign musical educational establish-ments are developing; mutual exchange of constructive visits is realized. Since 2007 Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory is the member of “European Association of Conservatories”. The Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory was awarded by the blue ribbon “Grant of the Russian Federation Government” in 2008 for its big successes in the field of education, science and art.

Candidates for studies in Russian State Universities, who don't speak Russian language, are firstly admitted to the Foundation Course (duration is 1 academic year) to study Russian language and improve the level of knowledge in major special subjects up to the required for further study at the University on the chosen specialty. The charge for nostrification of foreign educational documents to obtain “Certificate of equivalence” in the Rosobrnadzor of Russian Federation obligatory for all international students is approximately 150 USD. Students prepare the set of educational documents and undergo the procedure of equivalency by themselves and at their own expence.

The above-mentioned fees for tuition, accommodation in student hostel, life and health insurance are valid only for 2010/2011 academic year.

Fees for tuition and accommodation in student hostels in Russian State Universities are fixed in Russian national currency – “Russian ruble”. Fees indicated in USD are approximate equivalent of tuition fees in Russian rubles. The actual cost for tuition and accommodation in Russian State Universities fees may be corrected slightly the date of invoice for tuition payment issuing in accordance with exchange rate USD – Russian ruble in the International Exchange Market.


During the initial registration procedure the candidate pays a registration fee of 300 USD which covers the charges for the issuance of the invitation letter for studies, sending its original and other documents to the candidate's country of the permanent residence by express mail, meeting the candidate at the international airport in Moscow, transfer to the train station in Moscow, meeting at the train station of Nizhny Novgorod and accompanying to the University, drawing up documents for admission to University for studies, registration fee, etc. The above mentioned amount doesn't include the cost of the train ticket Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod.
Average food expenses are 200-300 USD per month. When first entering Russia, the candidate should have about 500 USD to buy some basic necessities and personal things (clothes, dishes, electrical equipment, etc.).
